The generosity of our members is integral to the success of the Society as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dependent on member support. Member contributions provide the foundation upon which all of the Society’s efforts rest in supporting the maritime heritage.
There is a variety of ways to make gifts to National Maritime Historical Society. NMHS welcomes individual and corporate donations, and gifts in honor of relatives and friends. Please consider one of these giving vehicles:
Appreciated Securities – A gift of longterm appreciated securities, either publically traded or from a private company, may provide greater tax advantages than gifts of cash.
Restricted Gifts – A donor may choose to designate his gift for one or more of the specific needs of the Society.
Gifts of Cash – A donor can receive full tax benefits on a cash contribution if he itemizes deductions.
Matching Gifts – Many companies will match or multiply donations made to the National Maritime Historical Society by their employees, and in some cases, by their employee’s spouses. Check with your personnel office for details.
Life Insurance – Donors who own a life insurance policy that the family no longer needs can get a tax deduction of the cash value of the policy if they donate it to the Society.
Bequests – Including the National Maritime Historical Society in your estate plans often has tax and income advantages and offers the personal satisfaction of making a meaningful charitable contribution toward the Society’s future. Members are asked to please remember to include the National Maritime Historical Society as a beneficiary of their will, trust, or retirement plan.
Sustaining Member – A sustaining gift may be set at any amount and can be charged to a credit card account on a monthly or quarterly basis – to directly benefit NMHS.
If you would like information about making a donation to the Society, please contact the Society’s president, Burchenal Green, at 914-737-7878, or 800-221-NMHS (6647). Donors should have their own counsel review their donations.
