H. C. Bowen Smith became interested in the sea after reading C.S. Forrester. Growing up in Washington, DC, he sailed a lot on the Chesapeake Bay in his youth and continues to be interested in all things naval.
In addition to his role as trustee for the National Maritime Historical Society, Mr. Smith also serves as trustee for Mystic Seaport and as treasurer of the U.S.S. Sequoia Preservation Trust. A lifetime member of the Nantucket Historical Society, he also is a past trustee, life member, and past chairman of the Curatorial Committee of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Mr. Smith is a collector of museum-quality ship models, maritime paintings, and artifacts and has donated a significant collection of historical model ships to Mystic Seaport. | Mr. Smith is currently a Senior Advisor of Greenhill and Company, primarily working with Forest Products, paper and packaging corporate finance activities. He was a Managing Director of Dillion Read and UBS Warburg. He has had a distinguished career in investment banking and securities analysis. Mr. Smith served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Forces, is an alumnus of Colgate University, and has an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.
