WWII Liberty ship JOHN W. BROWN (1942)

NMHS formed Project Liberty Ship in the mid-1980s, funding the ship's return from the James River layup fleet to Baltimore, MD. There she was restored with the support of a membership largely enlisted under NMHS auspices. She ventured forth under her own steam in 1991, and has since made many coastal cruises.
