Wooden Steam Schooner WAPAMA (1915)

This ship was the last of the West Coast steam schooners. In poor condition and slated for demolition by the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, National Maritime Historical Society President Peter Stanford called for her restoration. This led to the establishment of the West Coast Steam Schooner Foundation set up by a group of San Francisco members of National Maritime Historical Society. In 1998 NMHS Trustees held a West Coast Annual Meeting aboard the ship, contributing $50,000 toward her restoration. From there she went from strength to strength and is now re-accessioned and again supported by the San Francisco Maritme National Historical Park.
